I went to bed last night, aching from a massive weekend of snowboarding, smoking and drinking – basically debauchery that has made me feel a little worse for wear – I mean, the snowboarding was fantastic, and I had the time of my life, but as I was trying to sleep, coughing and spluttering, I realise part of my life has to change. Everyone has bad habits, some worse than others, and from my own personal perspective, I have two terrible habits – one is smoking cigarettes, and the other is s...

Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back: 1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing." 2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother." 3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father." 4. Boxing Ana...

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, "I clocked you at 80 mile per hour, sir." The driver says, "Gee, officer, I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar needs calibrating." Not looking up from her knitting the wife says sweetly from the passenger seat, "Now don't be silly, dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control." As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, "Can't you keep your mouth shut for onc...

Ok, I have a proposition for the entrepreneurs amongst us out there, and I sincerely beleive it is a novel idea, however, to get this idea of the ground - I require capital. The Idea is a car wash run and operated by hot bizatches, and only hot bizatches. I dont know how much it costs to purchase an appropriate amount of land for a car wash, and I know you usually dont have to pay car wash dudes very much money - I mean, it's an easy job - the trick will be to make the job attractive to.. ...

Context: This speech was given by Victorian crime writer (and outspoken public education activist) Shane Maloney to an assembly of boys at Scotch College - a prominent private school in Melbourne. He had been invited to conduct some workshops on writing (which he did) and then to speak to the larger gathering (he was given no guidance on what to speak on). Needless to say his speech caused quite a stir, with some of the teachers and boys being very indignant. Address to Scotch College S...

The fervour of the Olympics have died down, the patriotism of those countries that did well have not. Over the last few days, I have no doubt that I love my country, and the reasons I love my country are for all to see – however there are plenty of reasons why I should always question those that lead my country, and I will refuse to be blinded by patriotism. Collectively, Australia is a spirited nation, depicted by the surf, sun and sand – laid back and care free, however we have the dark ...

If I was a cow grazing in a field, just happily chewing away at my grass, and I happened to be in a field near a highway, I would look at the cars go past with a certain degree of awe... What is it exaclty that this wierd two legged creatures get up to all the time would be the main thought on my mind - of course, I would be a cow, and there wouldn't be much more room for any other thoughts, but to be honest, I would kind of prefer it that way. It's funny that I used a cow situation, but t...

I received the phone call on Wednesday evening, My Nana had had a heart attack, and had gone into Ballarat Base Hospital, Mum sounded really stressed, because Nana also developed and Abscus(sp?) on her throat as well - she was going in for treatment, and possible surgery on the throat, and the situations looks quite dire. My Nana has had a good innings. She turned 80 this year. She has been on her own since my Grandpa died in 1995 - she has always been a battler, and while we were never cl...

The Chinese, The Americans - traditional adversaries when it comes to Olympic competiton, The Russians are always competing as well, but this year there is a new entry to the elite sporting nations of the world - Japan. The Sydney 2000 medal tally shows Japan won 5 gold medals, finishing in 15th place. That is certainly respectable by any standards, but I really wonder where they have come from this year! The Athens 2004 medal tally reports Japan in 4th position - what an acheivment for...

Or so I’m told. More and more often these days. I take that to mean that people are under the assumption that I think I’m somehow better than they are. For the record, I don’t. The fact that this rarely happens to me in real life makes me think that the problem is not what I say, but the way that I say it. I enjoy lively debate at the best of times, and never more than with the variety of great minds on JU. Yet lately I have been feeling the effects of speaking my mind without the bene...

I really don’t like being blacklisted… Oh well, I don’t come here to write on other people’s blog’s I come here to create my own, and as long as I have the chance to do that, I am quite content. It’s funny – the blacklister on this occasion remarks “I don’t know why you have turned on me… yada yada yada” and then he does not allow me a chance to let him know that I haven’t turned on him, I just find this particular instance or sequence of events leading to my blacklisting very immature…...
