I must admit – I really am quite a fan of Wednesdays.
I suppose the predominant fact in my fondness of Wednesdays is the ever faithful truth, that as soon as you get past 12.01pm on a Wednesday, you have less remaining time at work than you have already completed for the week… you are over the hump that precedes every weekend!!!
Another fondness of Wednesday can stem from school days as well – Wednesday was the inter-school sport day. If we didn’t have to play, we were able to go home at lunch time. There weren’t many weekends where I wasn’t playing though. I have to satisfy my white line fever several times a week.
Those days were interesting… in my foolish youth; I remember rocking up to an orthodox Jewish school to play soccer against them. I was inadvertently enjoying a pork sandwich and washing it down with flavoured milk, totally unawares that I was abusing kosher to the max right in the middle of their school. On the soccer field that day, I was actually referred to as a gentile prick… I laughed, because we were already winning… I got a hat trick that day!!! But year, shalom to the Jews that I offended that day… sorry!
In primary school, we had a close family friend of ours – Pierre, who was of Bahraini descent (sub-continent for those who don’t know) he still had quite a thick Indian accent and would still cop a bit of stick from the kids at school. (kids can be jerks) Worst of all was one of our teachers… Mr Lamb. Quite an ominous figure of about 6’8” and when you are in grade 4 – that is rather large. Whenever it was Wednesday, Mr Lamb would shout to Pierre…
“What day is it Pierre?”
“Wed-nes-day” would be his reply…
He just couldn’t grasp the concept of the silent D… and we would always laugh… too this day, when I see Pierre, I ask him what day it is… its good that he can laugh about it now, otherwise we could have a complex on our hands!
Wednesday always seemed to have quality programming on TV as well… Wednesday will always be Simpson’s day.
So Wednesday is upon us again… only 2.75 days remaining until the weekend. When I was at school… weekends were great you know… time to hang out with the mates, go skating, hang out at the shopping centre and see a movie… whatever… Weekends are soooo much more to me now.
You actually *DO* work at work… I can confidently say I did about 2-4 months all told of hard schooling in my academic lifespan (13 years) I just found school ridiculously easy, and I succeeded with minimal effort. Every day was a weekend where you had obligations. You see your friends all day at school as well… at work it is different. You slug away to make money… and on the weekend, it is my belief that we should spend that money!!!! And see our friends who we haven’t seen all week… That’s what makes the weekend so much more special than when you were a kid. Besides, you had weeks upon weeks of holidays at school… School teachers have it made with awesome holidays
Last night was good fun. Tuesday has always been a weird one… I don’t really have the same affection for Tuesday… just another random day as far as I am concerned, except when I was 7-10… cub scouts was on a Tuesday night.
I met up with my brother after work. I am really, really proud of him right now. He got some bullshit crap kicker job at a bank – no brain power necessary. It was one of my mates that got him the job… anyway, he is taking this opportunity with both hands… impressing a lot of people. As much as I know he is an ass, he is my brother, and I will always love him and be proud of him. Anyway – we met, and I made the observation that I had been on his side of Richmond for 5 minutes, and there had already been infinitely more hot chicks compared to my side of Richmond… you really have to take these things into account you see. As someone who doesn’t go to school or have that many single friends, it is important to work in an environment where you can meet girls… I got no dice there.
We made our way home in stupid traffic, and my buddy Eoin was at our house upon arrival. He enjoyed after work spliffage with us… always fun. Its good to have mates like Eoin come around… we always engage in intellectual conversation. We have a lot in common we do. Anyways… Eoin and Brad had to leave, so Tim and I just played a couple of maps of CS… this is crap. I am actually finding myself sitting at work and looking forward to going home to play CS… nerd. I wish I was playing CS right now. Nerd. Tim is a CS freak. He spends far to much time playing that game… but when we play together its good, because we own all the time be cause we back each other up. We both have similar tactics.
Last night was a mad rush though – I had left my car at the train station, and because I was stoned, I fricken forgot to grab a lift with Brad or Eoin when they left… no biggy though, its only a 15 minute walk… but it would leave me rather late. I had to drop by Sean and Caitlin’s as well quickly to pick up some herbs.
That all done, we were finally on the home stretch toward the moonlight cinemas in the botanical gardens… They don’t start till sunset, and at the moment, it is still bordering 9.30pm. We would have made it with time to spare if it weren’t for my n00b brother. Seriously, he is so sheltered and naïve from too much CS, he doesn’t know how to navigate the city. We ended up parking beside the Yarra… I trusted my brother – he had been to the moonlight cinema before, so why shouldn’t I? because he made me walk about 3klms through the park to get where we were going… that’s why. I suppose I learnt to trust my instinct when around that idiot!!! Hehe.
I cant really complain though… was quite a brisk walk through the lovely gardens. I found myself thinking “if I had a girlfriend, I would make out with her over there” hehe… I love having such a big, beautiful and accessible park so close to our CBD – the botanical gardens are part of what makes Melbourne, Melbourne.
The documentary we saw was called ‘Spellbound’ - a piece following the journey of about 10 entrants to the American Spelling Bee competition. I had no idea that the competition was so fierce and important. It’s a weird movie to show an international audience though. I found so many stereotypes held true… The 12 year old from the projects in Washington, the 13 year old weird ‘genius’ kid from mid west America with a drawl and no friends, and some crazy little frog boy that is definitely clinically insane and sings like a robot. If I was American, I don’t know if I would want that film displayed to the rest of the world… but I guess the general public aren’t really the kind to see a documentary on spelling bees, so you would have the non-assuming type…
Great movie… I would recommend it to anyone… there was a lot of humorous moments, and little kids are cool. If you get the chance, I would recommend you see it at the botanical gardens as well!!! They had bean bags, alcohol, and you could smoke and stuff!!!! Not to mention flying fruit-bats as you are watching the movie… but they innocently glide past, no incessant chirping.
Here is an interesting fact… did you know that bats ears close when they chirp? Otherwise if they hear there own chirping, they severely destroy their sonar capabilities. Vampires are also cool.
After the movie, we were lucky enough to grab a lift back to the car... i was in bed by 1.00am, and ever ready for a pleasant nights sleep.
On that note… I will enjoy the rest of my day at work. If anything exciting happens, you will be sure to know about it… its only that, I don’t have anything exciting planned at all for a while – but you never know in the whacky world of Muggaz.
Peace Out
