A day to day acount of the whacky and wonderful world of Muggaz - i tend to be having too much fun these days, and often cannot remember moments due to debauchery - its time the internet repayed my loyalty by recording my antics.
I would never give Homer a mastercard...

It’s perfectly possible that everyone knows this already, but I just found out last night… The Simpon’s have sold out.

I was watching the Simpson’s last night – It was a replay of the tenth Halloween special… A quality episode that features the collector trying to capture Lucy Lawless from a comic book convention as Xena, the warrior princess… his plans are foiled though, when he takes a mint condition double bladed lightsabre from its packaging – hence rendering it uncollectible… in the events that follow, the collector has the ‘best death ever’ Great episode…

However, My Simpson’s experience was sullied by an advert for Mastercard – featuring none other the Homer J Simpson himself, and a plethora of our favourite Springfield characters… Is nothing sacred anymore?

Yes, the add is funny, as you would expect from the creators of the Simpson’s (I like the part where Homer opens the door and Hans Moleman goes flying) But advertising the benefits of a Credit Card using one of the worlds most famous families is nothing short of shocking for me…

Yes – many t-shirts feature slogans like “don’t have a cow” or “d’oh” along with the images of our favourite family, but this kind of merchandising isn’t the root of all evil… Credit Cards… they are evil…

I can only assume, but I imagine the USA’s credit card debt is nothing short of horrendous. Australia has a credit card debt in the billions, and it is continually spiralling. Credit cards are for responsible people… Homer J Simpson is not a responsible person…

Did the marketing department at Mastercard even think of who Homer Simpson appeals to? I can tell you they did, and they maliciously rubbed their hands together… I know it’s up to the individual whether they get a credit card or not, but Mastercard portrays them almost as a necessity… watch the coffers swell… at the expense of average Joe...

I really wish Matt Groening considered his audience, when he used one of today’s cult figures to pedal something like a credit card…

There should be a disclaimer at the end of the advertisement… “Credit Cards are not for stupid people – like Homer”

BAM!!!

i didn't know we had the same programming up here as you, muggy. it was an okay death, i guess. the opening the box and then falling bit was funnier than the actual death, though, i thought. but i digress, i saw that mastercard thing too, and it pissed me off. i tried hard to imagine it as clever irony of some sort or something, but i failed. i just looked like a blatant plug. shame on you, simpsons.

good article muggy

Homer Simpson is the closest character on TV to your every day American Male... He has strong family values, works 9-5 blue collar, and just a little bit stupid

If I wasn't a smarter man, I would already have my master card, because it is endorsed by the greatest family in the world!!!

Here in America the credit card companies set up little card tables the first week of college and start handing them out like candy to dumb freshmen. Poor dumb sods. It's like a crack dealer giving them the first hit free.

Good article Muggaz...

Browsing these forums there are a lot of articles on the decadence of the USA at the moment... Credit Cards are a major contribution to this decadence... the dollar is all important...
