A day to day acount of the whacky and wonderful world of Muggaz - i tend to be having too much fun these days, and often cannot remember moments due to debauchery - its time the internet repayed my loyalty by recording my antics.
"da da da dum da dum!!!"

My passion to be immersed in sport will soon be realised! I find smelly men and woman, dripping with sweat and anxiety so interesting, and all my craziest sporting dreams will be fulfilled over the next couple months – 2004 is a good year for sport.

In the next month or so, Portugal will be hosting the UEFA European Football Championships – Basically, the best 16 teams in Europe compete in a round robin format, and excel from groups of 4 into the final stages of the tournament. I will be writing an in-depth preview of the event shortly – just quickly though, whoever beats France will win the tournament, England will be lucky to get out of the group stages, The Czech republic will be the surprise packet again, not losing a game in qualifying.

Australia just played the Samoan Islands in the Oceania qualifying for the Confederations Cup – which ultimately leads to qualifying for the World Cup (which is in Germany 2006) Australia drew 2-2 with them. I must emphasise my extreme disgust at this point in time, because I have seen the Samoan Islands try to play soccer, and I am 95% certain that my indoor soccer team could beat them. It’s easy to criticize from the sidelines though!

Of course, also coming up is the pinnacle of world sporting events – the Olympic Games in Athens; September is not far away at all! I don’t think we will see any new surprises at these games, the perennial leaders of USA, China, Russia, and of course, the international minnows, but predictable sporting over achievers – the Aussies! I am looking forward to the swimming in particular. The epic battles between the Australian’s and the Americans in the pool are the focal point of the Olympics for many Australians, simply because it is our best sport. We aren’t so good on the track, but we have a lot of marine predators – so it’s within our interest’s to learn how to swim! And real fast as well! The duel between Michael Phelps of the USA, Ian Thorpe of AUS and Pieter Van Den Hoogenband of Holland is shaping up to be an enticing one indeed!

The Olympic Games aren’t really about how many medals you win though – even competing is prestigious in my eyes! I just hope the Athens Olympic organising committee have everything up to standard when September rolls around! It’s the feel good stories of the Olympics that I love best. I remember Sydney 2000, where a runner from Sierra Leone qualified to compete, yet he did not even have track shoes. Some loud mouth American who was worth more in endorsements than Sierra Leone’s annual GDP showed the true spirit of the games, and gave him a pair of his track shoes – sure, he would have a squillion pairs! But he didn’t have to give them to him?

I look forward to the world uniting under the 5 Olympic rings, hopefully the world can forget hostilities for a few weeks, and men from Iran can compete with Americans as brothers.

Meanwhile, September also means something a bit closer to home – it is the finals of the AFL premiership season, and based on current form, my team – the Melbourne Demons, should factor quite considerably! I love living a successful life vicariously through my chosen sport idols!!!

I just love sport… Keep you eyes tuned for some follow up articles soon!!!

BAM!!!

I am immensely looking forward to Euro 2004, Muggaz. Despite football being a peasant sport I sometimes enjoy watching it. I think our English boys could win it, for King Harry, England & Saint George!

I will cover that a bit more later Sir Peter... I admire your patriotism, and a country as glorious as England should be supported in the appropriate fashion.

Unfortunately, it is not represented as such. David Beckham is more interested in getting his face on glossy magazine covers while he mounts woman all over the country side, for fear of mounting his own wife because she could quite possibly snap in half... not to mention the absence of Rio Ferdinand, a true loss - or the lack of a world class goal keeper?

I know, you really are most benevolant, and what you say goes, I would just say it's unfortunate that your compatriots representing you on the pitch aren't as good footballers as you are a business man...

This is true dear boy, I telephoned David yesterday to wish him luck for the championships. His wife, the whore Victoria, is his biggest liability. If he were married to a woman who was not a narcissist she-devil then he would less time on the gossip magazine covers and more time on the score sheet. Women have been the downfall of many great men and he must cut the ex-spice girl's lifeline, without David she is nothing. He should really evaluate his options more.

Hehe, loads of football on the tv, yay, and I get to laugh at England wicked!! Though I admire your support of the England team Peter, as are first game is against France, I think we are going to be laughed off the pitch There's a serious lack of talent all over the pitch, I'd have to say our mid-field is strongest, are defence is poor and we lack a truely great striker, who is convincing. Hmm.. we shall see though
on Jun 07, 2004
If you want something done properly you have to do it yourself. Due to England's lack of talent, I shall have to either bribe the other teams or take to the field myself!

You say the midfield is the stongest Sally, yet in the French side you are against the likes of Zidane, Viera, Pires, Makele... I am sorry, but the lads dont have a chance against that pedigree... I will be having many late nights trying to watch the games! Hopefully I can watch them all... How i wish I was in sunny Portugal... or Athens for that matter!

Sir Peter, I often find myself saking the same question - I am certain you have mounted many a filly of finer calibre than 'Posh Spice' and David is one of the most sought after men on the entire planet... surely one with brains and a body as oppossed to a skeleton would be more suitable for the English football captain!

Why do you think it is that the English are just so bad at sport though my lord? they clearly have a problem!!!

A fundamental lack of passion has left English sport due to a mixture of politically correct anti-patriotism, but also youngsters do not receive notable financial support from sporting authorities anymore. We English aren't too bad at rugby though, I'm sure you would agree Muggaz old chap.
on Jun 07, 2004
Hehe Petey, that was a naughty comment! Muggaz, I totally agree with you, are midfield is nothing compared to Frances, though we have Paul Scholes, hehe! That is why we are going to be so embarrassed, but I still think the midfield can win us games against lesser teams. France will no doubt outclass us, though I get to look at Henrys legs for 90mins, yay! Hehe! Peter I don't agree with you about the lack of passion, I think if anything that's all we do have, it's the great talent we are lacking. I'm going to try and watch most games, I'm expecting a running commentary Muggaz!

Vieira is past his peak, Makelele is supposed to be rather good but he has played like a schoolboy all year.

The best midfielder in the Premiership this season has been the boy Lampard, Gerrard is a truly world class midfielder who can hold his own against anyone as can Paul Scholes plus we have David Beckham who is the best playmaker in the world.

The only French players we should truly fear are Zidane and Henry, the rest are over-rated. I predict an English win by two goals to one.

I think you might be setting yourself up for dissapointment Sir Peter!

for starters, Lampard is not world class - yet... nor I Gerrard! He is a filthy scouser, and only recently has he he finished with Puberty. Sally is right, Paul Scholes has the capacity to make the rest of the English team look good, and probably one of the best scoring chances in the English side... and that is saying something when one of your midfielders has a better chance of scoring...

Sir Peter, at this tournament alone their are a handful of better playmakers than the boy beckham... you faith is admirable though!

on Jun 07, 2004
The boy Beckham is over rated, he is just a dead ball specialist, and is good for team moral, for some strange reason! I shall have blind faith in England, hmmm!
on Jun 07, 2004
Doesn't anyone care about sport at this crazy website? crazy I say... Sport is awesome... this was a really good discussion we had going there guys!!!

As for Beckham, Sally, you are right, for some ridiculous reason, the whole team plays better when Beckham plays... he is somewhat of a talisman, and he does lead with determination on the field, and no one can strike a dead ball like him for my money... dead ball and cross specialist yes - playmaker, no.What

about the Olympics guys? does England have any good prospects? ehhe... stupid question... who should I watch out for?

BAM!!!
on Jun 08, 2004
! The cheek of it all! Can't say i'm a huge athletics fan, so Petey is probably better off responding to that one, but you're right, England and good prospects, ha! Like that's going to happen! Hehe! Yeah I've noticed people don't really appreciate the sports conversations around here, which is a shame, because I adore them, especially footy! Ahhh well wouldn't do for us all to be the same I guess. I'm getting all excited about Euro 2004, sad I know, I'll have to refrain from writing a blog about it, I'll just bore everyone!
on Jun 08, 2004

Wow. I totally forgot about the Olympics. It's been so long since the last one.

Also, don't mean to nitpick, but I think Homer says: "Sports, sports, sports, sports, sports, sports, sports, sports!"
